Great Way to Celebrate the Launch of the Book

Today is the official publication date of the book. What better way to celebrate than with a great review. The following review appeared today on Blisstree.

Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Ex* by Heather Belle, MFC and Michelle Fiordaliso, MSW is a smart and insightful book about all of the complicated and confusing issues surrounding the issue of ex-lovers.

Everything…Ex* is written in a witty, colloquial, and organized style.  It is filled with short anecdotes, tons of pop culture references, and bullet points that break down the problems and solutions of the most common problems that the authors have witnessed in their studies of relationships, yet is still fun and easy to read.  And yes, I did say solutions!  I was extremely happy to see that Belle and Fiordaliso took strong stances on so many issues that could be debated and actually offered detailed proposals for dealing with ex-relationship challenges.  While I was reading Everything…Ex*, I really felt like I was getting educated and reliable advice from my inner circle of girlfriends…and they just happened to be professional psychotherapists.

Belle and Fiordaliso do a wonderful job of recognizing the complicated personal issues like feelings of abandonment, fear, a desire to please others and low self esteem that come to the surface when ending relationships.  The insightful way that they diagnose and offer antidotes to these personal insecurities can be extrapolated to address larger issues that may be causing problems in other areas of someone’s life.  These women really understand the deep underlying issues that can make it so devastatingly hard to deal with the end of a relationship.

everything ex-authorsIf you are single and have an ex in your life, this book is a MUST READ.  If you are in any other situation, I still recommend this book because it has so much helpful information about diagnosing personal insecurities and finding ways to focus on yourself so that you can be happy and loving.  This fun little book is just spilling over with answers to why women feel the way that they do in so many situations.

You can visit the Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Ex* (*a former spouse, lover, fling or “friend”) website at Everything Ex to find out more about the authors and read their pop culture relationship blog.  The book is available online and in stores starting September 1.

Get Over It!

On August 28th watch an encore performance of this popular episode of This American Life.
This American Life
Three stories of people trying to forget the past and move on.

Act One. When You’re In Love, the Whole World is Jewish.

Host Ira Glass talks about the drama of trying to be “just friends” with an ex-girlfriend. The meaning of the title will be clear if you hear the piece. (17 minutes)

Act Two. Desiring Amnesia.

Fiction writer George Saunders reads his story “Offloading for Mrs Schwartz,” from his book CivilWarLand in Bad Decline: Stories and a Novella. It’s the story of someone who can’t get over the death of his ex-wife. (23 minutes).

Act Three. Finding Amnesia.

Who among us has not wanted amnesia to help get over someone or something? But the problem with amnesia is that it happens a lot more in TV shows and movies and novels than it does in real life. We send reporter Scott Carrier to find someone who really has had amnesia. It’s such a difficult assignment that at some point, he visits a hypnotist and asks her to take his memory away. (15 minutes)

Mixed Tapes

Cassette from My Ex Book Cover

Cassette from My Ex Book Cover

A well-made mixed tape is often the most painful reminder of a break-up. One of the best mixed tapes ever was full of things like Sugar Magnolia, Brown-Eyed Girl and Phish songs (obviously it was the 90’s and the guy was a bit of a hippie).

For anyone that’s ever made or played a mixed tape. And then cursed or cried when it got eaten up by an old tape deck this soon to be released (10/09) anthology is for you. It’s the perfect complement to our book.

Advance Praise for CASSETTE FROM MY EX:
“Anyone who understands the obsessive attention to detail, the time it took to collate, select, and edit the content of a perfectly executed mix tape, or just someone who appreciated the rhythms and nuances of such extraordinary artifacts will treasure this collection of stories, comfortable and secure in the knowledge that such exquisite efforts were not made in vain and indeed there was a time when a humble cassette tape was perhaps the greatest gift of all.”
